How APAC publishers expect events to evolve

Publishers report a rise in attendees and a higher geographical representation

The lack of geographical constraints of online events has resulted in more and a wider range of attendees for publisher events in Asia Pacific during Covid-19.

Fundamental Media spoke to seven publishers in APAC to find out how they have experienced the transition to online events and how they expect publisher events to evolve post-pandemic.

All publishers report having seen increased engagement figures during the pandemic, particularly on their websites, social media channels and event business.

Most publishers have seen a higher number of attendees for their online events than they would normally see at their physical events. With no geographical restrictions and the added benefit of saving travel time, their virtual events also attracted more attendees from other regions and countries who were previously unable to attend.

The publishers we spoke to said their virtual event offering experienced an accelerated growth and that this came with a few challenges, but all managed to host online events and are delighted with how they have been received by their audience.

The publishers are planning for the return of physical events and for the introduction of hybrid events, which most believe will not be until 2022. Despite the need to dramatically transform their digital capabilities to meet the unique needs of these unusual times, all publishers were optimistic about the future and their ability to continue to provide strong and informative content to their audiences in future.
